Final Editing

To show our development with filming, this is where we're at thus far, and it's nearing completion!
We have had to change a lot of our initial storyboard due problems in filming. When we filmed the long/establishing shots which were meant to be at the beginning, the lighting was either far too low or too bright in the different locations, and we found it very hard to fit them in with the fast-paced, dark shots in the rest of the trailer. With our music we also found that these long-lengthed shots didn't fit. So, we decided to abolish the whole idea and go with fast shots to start, though still not as fast (due to fade-to-black effects in between shots) as later in the trailer when the music crescendos.

After analysis of what we have, there are still things we need to consider. Perhaps most importantly, the music needs to be in time with the shots and fit in with the flashes and jumpy shots. In a couple of shots (e.g. at 0:17) we might need to add transitions, for example more fade-to-blacks, as the actual shots have imperfections and do not finish correctly. The speed of the shots may need altering, not only to fit in with the music but add to the pace. We may also need to add some further colour alterations, as to make sure they are not utterly dissimilar. The typography at the end with the title and release date still needs finalising and we may need to add some more information with the date. Flash images of sponsors (Ghost House/Twisted Pictures) may also appear towards the beginning.

Editing

We have now managed to edit the footage we have so it will be much easier to slot in the rest of the trailer once we've filmed some more. Below is the edited footage we do have:

We found ourselves to be quite lucky as our filming went so well and we got so much footage, there wasn't too much to edit. We did spend a lot of time, however, finding the 'impact shots' and the best shots to put in, which involved a lot of splitting and cropping. Our teaser trailer will be very fast-paced and so we sped-up a lot of shots, for example so that we only have a flash of Emily's face. The only thing we have yet to do with these shots is maybe colour alterations, which we don't feel we can do until the end so everything is more or less the same throughout.

The music also is clearly incomplete, but again we can't do that until everything is put together. The drone at the beginning is just something we found on iMovie but is the type of sound we want at the start of the trailer with the establishing shots and the shots of our protagonist walking into the house. The sound at the end is not final but we definitely want something like this to end the trailer.

The typography, though decided, has yet to be added in also.

Camerawork/Editing Ideas...

We have looked a lot at the film 'The Abandoned' and from the teaser trailer we found a very good example of fast editing and camera work so you see parts of the location and get a feel for the film but don't give too much of the plot away:

Ideally fast-cut shots like this will appear in our trailer in order to give flashes of scenes in order to create a sense that time is moving on.

Make Up Trials.

After deciding the narrative of our film in our media meeting, we decided to test some make-up/camera shots and editing techniques. These are the results:

For the make-up on Emily we used talcum powder to whiten her face and thick black eye-shadow and eye liner around her eyes. We made her hair look greasy by making an unnatural centre parting and gelling it down.
In terms of the photography, it was simply done with low lighting against a plain dark wall with the camera flash. The editing was done on 'iphoto', where we were able to adjust the contrast, brightness and colouring.
